Shipwreck Beach

Auteur: Neil Murray

This beach on the Island of Zakynthos, part of the Ionian Islands off of the west coast of Greece, is one of the most photographed locations in the world. We didn't believe that the colors would be anything like the photos we had seen, but were we very wrong. Taking this photo was quite literally a cliff hanger. Imagine standing out over a ledge that is at least 500 feet (152 meters) up from the sea.

The Citadel of Rhodes

Auteur: Panteleimon

The Island of Rhodes is more than an idyllic getaway in Greece. The citadel of Rhodes, built by the Hospitallers, is one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe, which in 1988 was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Temple of Poseidon

Auteur: Valerie

Cape Sounion is the site of the Temple of Poseidon and the site where Aegeus, King of Athens, leapt to his death off the cliff, thus giving his name to the Aegean Sea. He thought his son Theseus had been killed in his contest with the dreaded Minotaur, a monster that was half man and half bull. Theseus had forgotten to change his black sail to a white one, which was the sign to tell his father he had survived!

The sacred monasteries of the Meteora

Auteur: Elena

Inaccessible to anyone except for monks for centuries, the monks were hoisted up to the monasteries in nets using lever and pulley systems. They successfully held strong against many attacks as no one could reach them. They were built atop these sacred rocks to be closer to the heavens, as the origin of the name "Meteora" suggests.

Nas Beach, Ikaria

Auteur: Lee

The beach is open to nudists and non-nudists. Hiking up the riverbed will eventually bring you to a small waterfall and pool. On the cliff above the beach there are a few peaceful tavernas and rooms for rent with excellent views of the sea and the majestic Nas sunset.
