Renowned for its rolling vineyards, its exceptional way with wine and its superior grades, or grands crus – among the world’s most prestigious – UNESCO officially classed Bordeaux as a “City of Art and History” for its exceptional, well-preserved, and harmonious architecture. Every time you visit this city you will find another exquisite building or monument to marvel at. Bordeaux’s superb Old Town with its medieval Romanesque and Gothic architecture and fascinating atmosphere, and of course its delectable macaroons, will live on in your memory forever. In September and October 2010, I walked nearly 800 km from St-Jean-Pied-de-Port in the South of France, to Santiago in the far northwest of Spain. This picture was taken on my first day of walking at nearly 1,000 meters above sea level looking back on the Pyrenees from Orisson, near St-Jean-Pied-de-Port, on the French side of the border between France and Spain.
