The City that Never Sleeps

The Spanish capital is a sophisticated city with royal palaces, world-class museums, designer shopping, exclusive restaurants and elegant tree-lined streets. It is also a bustling cosmopolitan city that never seems to sleep. Night and day, you’ll have plenty of time to check out innovative galleries, explore the city’s great street markets, indulge your taste buds at tapas bars, or dance the night away at its very hot clubs.

Chocolatería San Ginés, Madrid (Pasadizo de San Gi

Auteur: Despina

While in Madrid, I had to try this delicious beverage so raved about in all the travel books. Of course, Madrid is not especially known for its hot chocolate and has much more to offer—there is the jamón and all those tapas that I could not get enough of. In fact, I could probably write a book on the tapas alone. Yet, my first visit to Chocolatería San Ginés was indeed a memorable one... as was the second and third that same week.

Valdelavilla in the mountains

My sister and I were volunteer participants in the “More Than English” program in Spain. This is the wonderful, refurbished village that we stayed in for a week along with other volunteers from England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, and the U.S.A.

The Alcázar of Toledo

Auteur: Catherine

I love southern Spain. The mix of architecture dates back to pre-Roman times. This building was built by the Moors during their more than 500 year occupation of Spain. Alcazars provided safe places for the caliphs to live and dominated the landscapes. The one in Toledo is especially spectacular and is surrounded by a medieval community little changed since the fifteenth century. Awe inspiring.

San Jerónimo el Real

Situated right behind the Museo Nacional del Prado, the subtle beauty of this church only became apparent to us while we were soaking up some sun outside the museum grounds.

Plaza Mayor

I loved this place! The architecture of the building is breathtaking and all the shops and restaurants are delightful!
