I had wanted to visit this place ever since I studied Spain, as the Moorish period left such an impact on the language and its architecture. The Alhambra is definitely one of Europe’s must-sees, and the setting for it is breathtaking. What you can’t see in this picture are the Sierra Nevada mountains, which can be seen from the distance when you visit the Alhambra.

Entering the old town of Segovia by walking under the ancient Roman aqueduct, we strolled up the narrow winding cobblestone street to the Plaza Mayor, where we had an enjoyable lunch in the scenic plaza. Wandering the traffic-less cobblestone streets to the castle was a delight. The view from this ancient fortification and royal residence was spectacular.

This is the view of the beach from our room at the Meliá Costa del Sol, in Torremolinos. The beach was fantastic but the water was very, very cold! We were there at the end of June so I was somewhat surprised. Still, a beautiful place to go and relax.

Walking around Cádiz, we found a postcard with a picture of this structure from this angle, and we walked for over three hours trying to find where the photographer must have been to get this photo—no matter where we went we could only see the golden roof, until finally we stumbled upon the right part of the city. Definitely worth it—a great shot!

The village of Comares is hard to find but worth the visit. It is located high in the mountains.
