An old train makes its way from Porto, alongside the Douro River in Northern Portugal, to Pinhão, a tiny village with a beautiful station, complete with Alentejo blue tiles on the platform walls. They served wine on the train, and we were serenaded by local musicians. The views from the train were spectacular as we made our slow journey to Pinhão, with great views of the vineyards of this famous port producing region.

This picture was taken in 2005. At the time, the Estoi Palace was closed, so the property was in disarray. It has since reopened into a fabulous pousada, or inn. We would love to go back and see it returned to its former glory!
