Isla Margarita
Where on earth
Venezuela's island paradise
This is the country's largest tourist centre, for both Venezuelans and
international visitors. Nicknamed "The Pearl of the Caribbean," Margarita first became
well known for its pearl oyster beds.
Located in the open waters of the Caribbean Sea,
Margarita is Venezuela's largest island. It is made up of two almost separate islands
connected by a narrow strip of land known as La Restinga. The eastern part is referred
to as Peninsula Macanao. Isla Margarita is one of the Lesser Antilles islands.
