Information for travellers
MEDICAL ATTENTION
If you are travelling between Canada and the United Kingdom or Florida, please read this Important notice.
Things you should know
For any special services regarding medical attention, please inform your travel agent at least 7 business days prior to departure. Failure to do so may prevent you from departing on your scheduled flight. We have access to MedLink, an emergency telemedicine service. This service enables crew members to contact an emergency physician at all times during the flight. The physician assesses the medical situation and recommends a plan of care. Defibrillators are also on board all of our aircraft. Our Flight Directors and Assistant Flight Directors are fully trained on the use of this equipment.
Allergies
Air Transat cannot guarantee food free of peanuts or seafood products, or that allergens won't be present in the food or snacks served on board. We strongly suggest that passengers suffering from food allergies bring their own food and snacks for the duration of the flight. However, please note that food and beverages brought from home are subject to liquids, gels and aerosols restrictions. Some countries, including France, may require a medical certificate or prescription when carrying food through the security checkpoint. Talk to your physician about the allergy emergency "Epi-pen" (epinephrine).
Oxygen
For most Air Transat flights (except to and from the United States, see below for details), you can bring your own oxygen travel kit for occasional or constant use during the flight, if the size conforms to our carry-on baggage size regulations (23 x 40 x 51 cm (9 x 16 x 20 in)).
To bring your own oxygen, we need to receive a special request as soon as possible or at the very latest 7 business days prior to departure. Failure to do so may prevent you from departing on your scheduled flight. In order to obtain approval for the transportation of your oxygen, you must contact us at request@airtransat.com.
- Upon receipt of your emailed request, our agent will provide you with an Air Transat form that will need to be completed by the attending physician and returned to Air Transat.
- The form must be completed within 30 days of departure and should also include your physician's name and telephone number and the oxygen flow required.
- The size of your own oxygen travel kit must conform to our carry-on regulations (see below for travel to/from the United States).
Liquid oxygen may not be transported at any time, as it is forbidden for transport by air.
*Personal Oxygen concentrators may be used on board any Air Transat flight. The following models are acceptable for use: Inogen One, Sequal Eclipse, Airsep Lifestyle, Airsep Freestyle, Respironics Evergo. Spare lithium or lithium ion batteries may only be carried as carry on baggage under controlled conditions and sizes, and quantity is limited to amount needed for duration of flight. Also note that these devices must be self-powered, as there are no power sources available on board our aircraft. Please contact us for more details.
Passengers requiring in-flight oxygen service are encouraged to contact our Seat Selection Centre. Our agents will be pleased to arrange appropriate seating. Bulkhead seating is not available for passengers using oxygen, as the bottles must be secured under the seat in front for take-off and landing.
Passengers can also bring their own empty cylinder carefully packed as carry-on if the size conforms to regulations or as checked baggage. See details in our Baggage & dangerous goods sections.
Oxygen (flights to the U.S.)
If you require in-flight oxygen service and are travelling to and/or from the U.S., please note that the requirements are the same as mentioned above, except that Air Transat will supply the oxygen kit (charges apply). This is due to U.S. aviation regulations. To order oxygen, we must receive a special request no later than 7 business days prior to departure. Failure to do so may prevent you from departing on your scheduled flight.
Please note that personal oxygen concentrators can be used on our flights to/from the U.S, however personal oxygen cylinders are not permitted.
Our oxygen supplier is VitalAire. Our MediPak is equipped with "D" cylinder model 390 I. This type of oxygen machine can be used occasionally or on a continuous flow during the flight.

Other medical equipment
You can bring your own medical equipment for use during the flight, if the size conforms to our carry-on baggage size regulations (total size/dimensions not to exceed 23 x 40 x 51 cm (9 x 16 x 20 in)).
Your medical equipment must absolutely be self-reliant (i.e. battery-powered). Air Transat cannot provide you with power or any other material.
If travelling with your own equipment, it is important to note that you should be self-reliant or travel with an escort, as our crew members are not trained and cannot be responsible for any other medical equipment.
Should you need a customized seating or support device for in-flight use, prior approval is required. Please contact us before booking and allow a minimum of 45 to 60 days for approval. Only Transport Canada approved car seats can be accepted automatically (click here for details).
For all other medical equipment, we must receive a special request at least 7 business days prior to departure for approval. Failure to do so may prevent you from departing on your scheduled flight. You must present, along with your special request, the following specific information:
- Type and specifications of your medical equipment (including type of battery used)
- A medical certificate from your physician, including a statement that you can fly without risk to self and other passengers
- Name and telephone number of your physician
- Size and dimension of your own medical equipment, which must conform to our carry-on size regulations
Stretchers
Air Transat aircraft are not equipped to transport passengers on stretchers.
